Foundation for the Development of New Hydrogen Technologies in Aragon

Competence: Integration of hydrogen production with renewable energy, photovoltaic and wind.

The Foundation is a private non-profit organization whose objectives are:

  • Develop the new technologies related to hydrogen and renewable energy.
  • Promote the settlement of Aragon to the economic activities related to hydrogen use as an energy carrier
  • Encourage research, technology development, co-generation, industrial adaptation, contribution to the industrial modernization and competitiveness enhancement.

The activities of the Foundation are oriented towards:

  • to attain the acknowledgement of Aragon as a prestigious agent regarding new hydrogen technologies.
  • to help the adaptation of SMEs, which vertebrate the regional economy, and to position them in the pole of the innovation related to new hydrogen technologies.
  • to incorporate the renewable energies to new products and industrial processes, acting as a growth and modernization vector.
  • to organize activities, held by the companies and citizenship, that broaden the knowledge with the aim of Aragon settlement into the economic activities related to hydrogen use as an energy carrier.

The Foundation has experience in research projects supported by different types of funding:

  • Regional funding:
EDHa Project (2005-2006), Strategy and Oportunities of Hydrogen for Aragonese SMEs, and VITHa Project, Technological Watch on New Hydrogen Technologies for aragonese SMEs (PCCP/2006/42), supported by SMEs Consolidation and Competitiveness Plan.
  • National funding:
ITHER Project (2005-2007), Hydrogen Generation from Renewable Energy Sources (CIT-120000-2005-37 y PCT-A22266217-2005), and “International Seminar of Renewable Energy Sources” Project PCT-A22266217-2006.
  • European funding:
Hy-TETRA Project (2006-2008) (INN7/030625), supported by 6th FrameWork Programme, is constituted by 5 European Region partners leaders on Hydrogen technologies. This project is focused on hydrogen technological transfer activities as mobiles as stationary and portable ones. One of the milestones of this project is the realisation of a brokerage event to meet in the same moment all the RTD centres and companies that support the project. H2- Training Project (2006-2008) (ES/06/B/F/PP-149461) is supported by Leonardo da Vinci Programme with a partnership of 10 entities from 5 different European countries. The main objective is the Curricula Design as well as the elaboration of training contents based on hydrogen and fuel cell technologies internationally validated.

With regard to the facilities, the Foundation has installed a 100 kW photovoltaic park with different technologies, and a 635 kW R&D wind park to generate hydrogen from a polymeric electrolizer. Hydrogen produced is used in a fuel cell to close the energy cycle integration.
