I3A - Instituto de Investigación en Ingeniería en Aragón

I3A activities are concerned in four different areas: research, technology transfer, training and scientific diffusion.

Within the research area, the main lines of work are the following:

  • BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING
  • PRODUCTION AND LOGISTICS
  • PROCESS ENGINEERING
  • INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGIES
  • OPTICS AND LASER TECHNOLOGIES

Competences:

  • New propulsion systems.
  • Dimensioning of the propulsion, energy and fuel storage systems for non – pollutant vehicles.

Development of propulsion systems for non – pollutant vehicles.

Vehicle architecture is developed: dimensioning of engine or fuel cell (according to power, source of energy…), energy and fuel storage systems. Everything is considered in connection with the use of the vehicle.

Economical study of hydrogen transport and distribution systems considering the hydrogen use scene, temporal projection, production, distribution, storage and facility costs, and other aspects such as a morphological study or a traffic analysis of the city or region considered.

Storage tanks design for compressed hydrogen: optimal ratio between materials and thickness.

Group of thermochemical processes of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Department of the University of Zaragoza (Spain).

Our main research field is the thermochemical use of residues in order to improve the value product as electricity or chemicals.

The aim of our work is:

  • To eliminate a residue.
  • To generate a valuable product (energy, chemicals).
  • To perform these two objectives in a way which minimizes environmental impact.

Competence: Hydrogen production from different thermochemical processes.

Biomass thermochemical conversion from pyrolysis or gasification processes (steam and carbon dioxide) with the aim of obtaining a high added value rich in hydrogen clean gas.

Production of gases riches in hydrogen from catalytic reforming processes of pyrolytic liquids(APR: Aqueous Phase Reforming) such as soya, palm oils or glycerine. Development and roduction of selective catalysts for these kinds of processes.

Biomass - coal gasification processes.
