Fuel Cell powered energy systems for aerospace field
Types of Technology
Transport and storage of hydrogen
Fuel cell, hydrogen production
Detailed Description
We are the research group of the Departement of Aerospace Engineer of Politecnico di Torino. We have developed an APU (auxiliary power unit) based on a PEM fuel cell and we are now designing a power system for a small manned aircraft. Our expertise is thus in the design, construction and testing of PEM systems with particular attention to the issues deriving from their usage in the aerospace environment. We are also working on the design of more compact and lightweight PEM stacks.
Areas of Application
The feasibility of using the fuel cell technology in the aerospace field is related to the severe constraints in term of volume and weight tipical of that field. We are interested in finding lightweight hydrogen storage systems, compact PEM stacks, control valves and other components. We are also looking for partners to involve in a future EU project on topics related with "green airport" or the design of innovative stack components like bipolar plates.
