Co-operation Profile

The competence of the Fraunhofer Institute comprises the development of small size mobile units for the production and storage of hydrogen. The institute has developeda combined mobile production and filling station for hydrogen. The concept is basing on the combination of production, storage and supply of hydrogen in a trailer. It closes a gap in the supply of pressurised hydrogen and enables the realisation of test and demonstration projects of hydrogen-driven vehicles at changing locations. Using the station, a flexible and safe alternative to the stationary filling stations/boole storages is offered. The station generates and stores ultra-pure hydrogen in a mobile trailer in a fully automated and safe manner. The trailer can be set up wherever a water and power supply is available. At the same time the trailer serves for a filling station, certified and approved by the German TÜV and the Trade Supervisory Office. The Trailer generates gaseous hydrogen by electrolysis from water. A compressor brings the gas into an internal pressure tank and compresses it to the final fuelling pressure. The fuelling takes place by the overflow principle via a flexible high-pressure pipe with standardised H2-tank-coupling. An all-embracing safety concept assures a simple handling and safe operation. The transport of the trailer is realised in emptied state and thus it is no hazardous materials transport. The station can be operated fully automated and without supervision by staff
