Solid Oxide Fuel Cell module for clean power generation from hydrocarbon fuels
Detailed Description
The clever, innovative, simple design offers low manufacturing cost per kilowatt along with high power density and high operating efficiency. The development goal is a small (1 to 2 kW, 24 VDC) plug-in module for many applications like portable power generators, stationary cogeneration, onboard power sources for transportation on land, by sea, or air, military and emergency systems, standby power sources etc. The unit can be operated on standard hydrocarbon fuels, biogas and biofuels or even hydrogen should this synthetic fuel ever reach the market. One of the most prominent applications will be in the residential area either in advanced fuel cell heat and power units, or in many portable and mobile applications around human habitats. Innovative aspects Solid Oxide Fuel Cells offer high energy conversion efficiency at low levels of pollution. In addition, the presented technical solution has many innovative features like its circular cells with a unique flow field design for fuel and air flow. Also, an advanced fabrication process is used for low-cost cell manufacturing. Cells and bipolar plates have been merged to a single unit. There are not sealing elements or materials. The stacks can be assembled and, if necessary, be removed easily because of an intelligent system design. The unit also has a unique air supply system and an innovative anode exhaust recycling without a pump in the hot gas environment.
